The NT branch of the Australian Education Union is calling on the NT government to invest in an Alice Springs high school merger.
Centralian Middle School (CMS) and Centralian Senior College (CSC) will merge to form Alice Springs College on the current CMS site from next year, but the union says $500,000 is not enough for the significant infrastructure works required.
The Department of Education says more funding will be provided, but has not specified how much or when.
The Australian Education Union (AEU) says half a million dollars will not be enough to cover all necessary infrastructure upgrades at the new Alice Springs high school merger.
From the start of 2027, Centralian Middle School (CMS) and Centralian Senior College (CSC) will merge to become the Alice Springs College on the current CMS site in Gillen.
The school community has raised concerns that many classrooms, the hall and the library will be too small to fit extra students, while science and computer labs and the home economics kitchen need upgrading.
