The eastern German state of Brandenburg has unveiled the world's tallest wind turbine, developer Gicon said.
The wind turbine, located in the community of Schipkau,100 kilometers south of Berlin, reached its final height of 365 meters (1,197 feet). It is scheduled to begin operating in November.
The structure is designed to take advantage of stronger and more consistent winds at higher altitudes. Gicon says the turbine could generate roughly twice as much energy as a conventional wind turbine with the same rotor diameter. It is expected to generate enough electricity to supply up to 7,500 households.
Schipkau and its surrounding region were once dominated by coal mining.
